  • New Antibiotic discovered in Mexican forests
    The properties of newly discovered antibiotic have specific application in agriculture greatly. It is a soil bacterium and is known as “phazolicin”. This compound was unknown previously and was recently isolated in the tropical rain forests of Mexico.


  • 20 new moons of Saturn discovered
    With this Saturn has a total of 82 moons today. It is the highest of any planet in solar system. Till date Jupiter had the highest number of moons. It has 79 moons. The moons of Saturn discovered are relatively smaller moons. The discovery was made at the Subaru telescope set up atop Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano.


  • MOSAIC Expedition India starts sharing maritime data
    At the Goa Maritime Conclave, 2019, the National Security Advisor offered countries in the IOR use of facility to track the movement of vessels on high seas. India has a specialized center operating for the purpose called the IFC – IOR. The center acts as an information sharing hub.


  • Ganga Aamantran initiative launched by Jal Shakti Minister
    Ganga Aamantran is an initiative to connect stakeholders of the Ganga river. It is the first effort of National Mission for Clean Ganga. It is an open – water rafting and kayaking expedition that is to be held on the Ganges between 10th October 2019 and 11th November 2019.


  • India gets first tranche of Swiss account details
    Under the new Automatic Information Exchange pact, India received its first tranche of Swiss Bank Account details. India hence is legally one among 75 countries with which the Switzerland Federal Tax Administration (SFTA) has exchanged information. The next exchange of information will take place in September 2020.


  • Him Vijay:Indian Armys 1st mountain combat exercise
    The Indian army will begin its first ever mountain combat on October 7. The exercise is to test the mobility, coordination and communication of the troops in difficult terrain. The exercise is to be conducted in two phases.


  • Researchers see individual virus formation for the 1st time
    The researchers of USA captured images of formation of viruses from particles.The study was performed on single stranded RNA virus. The researchers believe that this new advancement will help to find new treatment approaches for viral diseases.


  • Monsoon Mission Coupled Forecast Model
    India’s new monsoon model, called the Monsoon Mission Coupled Forecast Model (CFS), has failed to forecast the excess rainfall received during August-September 2019. It was deployed by the IMD (India Meteorological Department) under National Monsoon Mission (NMM).


  • Nobel Prize 2019: Chemistry
    John B Goodenough, M Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino for the development of lithium-ion batteries. These three scientists created the right conditions for a wireless and fossil fuel-free society. Lithium ion batteries: The foundation of the lithium-ion batteries were laid by Stanley Whittingham in the 1970s, during the oil crisis.


  • 2019 Nobel Prize – Physics
    Swiss Scientists Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz and Canadian – American physicist James Peebles. 1 half of the prize was won by the American for his contribution towards Theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology. The other half was shared between the Swiss scientists for their work on Discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a star similar to sun.


  • 2019 Nobel Prize: Medicine
    Britain’s Peter Ratcliffe and William Kaelin and Gregg Semenza of US shared the 2019 Nobel Medicine Prize for their work on how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability. The team revealed the understanding of how oxygen levels affect cellular metabolism.
