  • Stolen Nataraja idol back to Tamil Nadu after 37 years
    The two-and-a-half-foot idol, taken away from the Kulasekaramudayar Aramvalartha Nayaki Amman temple in 1982, was traced to Australia.

 

  • Cryodrakon boreas, the largest flying animal
    plane-sized reptiles that lorded over primeval skies above T-rex, Triceratops and other dinosaurs of the late Cretaceous.With a wingspan of 10 m and weighing 250 kg, Cryodrakon boreas rivals another pterosaur as the largest flying animal of all time.

 

  • Chandrayaan 2 orbiter ‘sights’ Vikram lander on moon
    Chandrayaan-2 is the second lunar exploration mission developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation, after Chandrayaan-1. It consists of a lunar orbiter, the Vikram lander, and the Pragyan lunar rover, all of which were developed in India.

 

  • India’s First Garbage Café to open in Chhattisgarh
    The country’s first garbage cafe has been launched here in Chhattisgarh. Under this, the Municipal Corporation will provide food to the poor and homeless in lieu of plastic waste. Ambikapur, which has been selected as the second cleanest city after Indore, plans to use the plastic for construction of roads.

 

  • 1st-ever architectural LED illumination at Qutb Minar
    The historic Qutb Minar came alive as it saw the 1st ever architectural LED illumination inaugurated by Prahalad Singh Patel, Tourism Minister in New Delhi recently. With the illumination, the architectural beauty of the 12th century monument will display its historic magesty after sunset.

 

  • India’s longest electrified train tunnel inaugurated in AP
    Andhra Pradesh gets India’s longest electrified rail tunnel. Key features. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated India’s longest electrified rail tunnel. Situated between Cherlopalli and Rapuru stations of Andhra Pradesh, the 6.6-km long tunnel is a part of the Obulavaripalli-Venkatachalam railway line.

 

  • Hans Christian Gram
    Hans Christian Joachim Gram was a Danish bacteriologist noted for his development of the Gram stain. His development of a method of staining bacteria, to make them more visible under a microscope. The stain later played a major role in classifying bacteria.

 

  • Water found for first time on potentially habitable planet
    1st time a planet in its star’s “Goldilocks zone” – where the temperature is neither too hot nor too cold for liquid water to exist – has been found to bear the life-sustaining substance in the blanket of gases that surround it.

 

  • September: celebrated as ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’
    This year the theme is Complementary Feeding. Prime Minister’s Overreaching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment – POSHAN Abhiyaan is a multi- ministerial convergence mission with the vision to address malnutrition with a targeted approach by 2022.

 

  • Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul lock and Kandangi saree gets GI tag
    The lock is known throughout the world for its superior quality and durability while the cotton saree is characterised by large contrast borders. Two well-known products from Tamil Nadu — Dindigul lock and Kandangi saree — have been given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by The Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai.
