  • Dutee Chand: 1st Indian sprinter to win Gold in the 100m
    Indian sprinter Dutee Chand has clinched a Gold medal in the 100-metre dash event at the 30th World University Games (WUG-2019) at Napoli in Italy. With the Gold, Dutee has become the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win the coveted yellow metal at the event.

 

  • 11 July: World Population Day observed
    Its observance is aimed to shift focus towards urgency and significance of issues related to population. The World Population Day was established by the Governing Council of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989.

 

  • Connaught: 9th most expensive office location in World
    As per property consultant CPRE’s annual Global Prime Office Occupancy Costs Survey, New Delhi’s Connaught Place (CP) is 9th most expensive office location in the world with an annual rent of nearly $144 per sq. ft. CP retained its 9th position from last year.

 

  • Green tax or environmental tax
    This tax imposed on environmental pollutants or on goods whose repeated use contributes to pollution. The state government has decided to impose the tax to limit the number of old vehicles in the city, thereby curbing air pollution.

 

  • NE Frontier Railway’s Plan Bee:Best Innovation Award
    A unique strategy adopted by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) called ‘Plan Bee’ to keep wild elephants away from train tracks has won the ‘Best Innovation Award’ in Indian Railways for the 2018-19 fiscal.

 

  • UNESCO World Heritage list
    The Walled City of Jaipur, known for its iconic architectural legacy and vibrant culture, made an official entry into UNESCO.
    Italy’s hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, which is home to world-famous sparkling wine Prosecco, were added by UNESCO to World Heritage list.

 

  • Gully Boy’ wins NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film
    Indian movie ‘Gully Boy’ was honoured with NETPAC (The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Award for Best Asian Film at 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea.

 

  • NAG Missile
    DRDO carried out 3 successful test firings of Nag missiles during both day and night in Pokhran firing ranges. It is a 3rd generation anti-tank guided missile, which has top attack capabilities that can effectively engage and destroy all known enemy tanks during day and also in night.

 

  • 1st model village built with Indian assistance
    The first model village built with Indian assistance under the Model Villages Program was inaugurated at Ranidugama in Gampaha in Sri Lanka. It is a part of housing project meant for war affected people and estate workers. The fully constructed houses were handed over to beneficiaries.

 

  • 1st-ever India International Cooperatives Trade Fair
    The First Ever India International Cooperatives Trade Fair (IICTF) will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. It scheduled from 11th till 13th October 2019. It is a unique initiative for taking farmers, artisans & other members of cooperatives directly to global trade arena.

 

  • SCR commissions Longest Electrified Railway Tunnel in India
    South Central Railway one of the 18 zones of Indian Railways has commissioned the longest electrified tunnel in Indian Railways. The new tunnel measures 6.6 kilometres. It is situated between Cherlopalli and Rapuru Railway stations in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh.
