Railway JE 2019 Exam Pattern

Only single online application {common to all the notified posts in opted Railway – Junior Engineer (JE), Junior Engineer (Information Technology) [JE(IT)], Depot Material Superintendant (DMS) and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA)} has to be submitted by the candidate through the link provided on the official website of Railway’s.

Railway JE 2019 Exam will be conducted in 4 different Phases:

  • First Stage of CBT
  • Second Stage of CBT
  • Document Verification
  • Medical Examination

Negative Marking: There shall be negative marking for incorrect answers in CBTs. 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question shall be deducted for each wrong answer.

Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%. These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

Railway JE Exam Pattern: 2nd Stage CBT

Short listing of Candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT exam shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in the 1st Stage CBT Exam. Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for 2nd Stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of Posts notified against the Railway as per their merit in 1st Stage CBT. However, Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit in total or for any specific category(s) as required to ensure availability of adequate candidates for all the notified posts.

Negative Marking: There shall be negative marking for incorrect answers in CBTs. 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question shall be deducted for each wrong answer.

Normalization of Marks

Marks are normalized for both the CBT in order to develop a Merit Index. The normalization takes into account the examination conducted in multi-sessions/ single sessions and the difficulty of exams. This normalization uses the raw marks to generate a common standard for the Merit List. Based on the normalization, a combined Merit List will be published in the descending order and the allotment will be done as per the post preferences.

Railway JE 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality / Citizenship

A candidate must be either –

  •   a Citizen of India or
  •   a subject of Nepal or
  •   a subject of Bhutan or
  •   a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
  •   a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East   African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly   Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the   intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to   categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate   of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

As of 1st January 2019, the minimum age of the candidates must be 18 years and the maximum age limit is 33 years.

Note:

  • Candidates waiting for Final Results of Prescribed Educational Qualification should not apply.
  • The options from the candidates for various posts for which they are eligible in the opted Railway, shall be taken during submission of online applications.
  • All the candidates with the above qualification shall be tested in the Exam Group mapped as per the above chart. However, candidates with educational qualification of BE/B.Tech (Computer Science) or BE/B.Tech (Information Technology), applying for both the posts of JE(S&T Department) and JE (IT), have to opt for either Electronics and Allied Engineering Exam Group or Computer Science and Information Technology Exam Group.
  • The educational qualification for the post of DMS (Depot Material Superintendent) is Three Years Diploma in Engineering, i.e,, a candidate with Three Years Diploma in any of Engineering disciplines, can apply for these posts as applicable.
  • Candidates with educational qualifications not figuring in the above chart and eligible for DMS posts have to choose any one of the above listed Exam Groups other than CMA Exam Group, during the registration for online applications.
  • A candidate possessing more than one minimum educational qualification, mapped to different Exam Groups, can choose any one Exam Group. These candidates would be eligible for all the posts for which they possess minimum educational qualifications.

Medical standards for the post

Candidates called for Document Verification will have to pass requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that the candidates are medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post(s) opted by them. Visual Acuity Standard is one of the important criteria of medical fitness of Railway staff. The medical requirements against different Medical Standards for different categories are outlined below:

  • Different Medical Standards shall apply to Ex-Servicemen as detailed in Para 534 of Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM) Volume I, which may be accessed at http://www.indianrailways.gov.in.

Railway JE Document Verification 2019

Candidates who find a place in the merit list generated after the Railway JE CBT 2 2019 are then called for a Document Verification(DV). This Document Verification procedure is done to check the eligibility claims and verify the required documents. A candidate should note that no additional time is provided to submit the documents and it should be done on the DV day itself. All documents should be produced in the Original form. Following is the list of documents required on the day of DV:

  • Two self-attested photo copies of all documents and the copies should be scanned copies in the true colour.
  • Matriculation/ High School Certificate for DOB verification.
  • Diploma/Engineering/Science Degree certificates along with the Mark-sheets of all Semesters.
  • Category certificates for reserved candidates(SC/ST/OBC-NCL etc.)
  • NOC from the already serving employees
  • Self-declaration by Transgender candidates
  • Receipt of payment if the payment was made through SBI Challan or Computerized Post Office
  • J & K domicile Certificate for candidates belonging to Jammu & Kashmir

The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices and are likely to include questions pertaining to:

a) Railway JE Syllabus: Mathematics

Number systems, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM and HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern.

b) Railway JE Syllabus: General Intelligence and Reasoning

Railway JE Syllabus for 2nd Stage CBT

The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices and are likely to include questions pertaining to General Awareness, Physics and Chemistry, Basics of Computers and Applications, Basics of Environment and Pollution Control and Technical abilities for the post. The syllabus for General Awareness, Physics and Chemistry, Basics of Computers and Applications, Basics of Environment and Pollution Control is common for all notified posts:

a) General Awareness :

Knowledge of Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian Polity and constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, Sports, General scientific and technological developments etc.

b) Physics and Chemistry:

Up to 10th standard CBSE syllabus.

c) Basics of Computers and Applications:

Architecture of Computers; input and Output devices; Storage devices, Networking, Operating System like Windows, Unix, Linux; MS Office; Various data representation; Internet and Email; Websites & Web Browsers; Computer Virus.

d) Basics of Environment and Pollution Control:

Basics of Environment; Adverse effect of environmental pollution and control strategies; Air, water and Noise pollution, their effect and control; Waste Management, Global warming; Acid rain; Ozone depletion.

e) Technical Abilities:

Application Fee 

Candidates are required to pay the application fee as per their category:
