  • Kanha tiger reserve : first in India get official mascot
    Kanha in Madhya Pradesh became first tiger reserve in India to officially introduce a mascot named Bhoorsingh the Barasingha, to create a better connect with its visitors, especially the younger generation
  • Vanita Gupta appointed president of ‘Leadership Conference’
    Indian-American Vanita Gupta, who headed civil rights division in the Dpt of Justice in the Obama Administration, has been appointed as president and CEO of ‘The Leadership Conference’, becoming the first woman to head the organisation.
  • 3rd G20 Framework Working Group meeting held in Varanasi
    Around 70 financial and economic policy mandarins from 32 countries are brainstorming on the state of global economy with the hard turn on protectionism and climate change.
  • S.V Sunil named Asian Hockey Player of Year
    India forward SV Sunil was named the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Player of the Year for 2016. On the other hand, Harmanpreet Singh was chosen as the Promising Player of the Year in the continental body’s annual awards.
  • Central Board of Excise and Customs chief
    Senior bureaucrat Vanaja N Sarna was appointed as chairperson of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). Sarna, a 1980 batch officer of Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise), is at present member in the CBEC.
  • ‘Namami Brahmaputra’ Festival
    The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the ‘Namami Brahmaputra’ festival in Guwahati. The five day long festival is being organized by the Govt of Assam with aim to strengthen the bonds among communities of Assam.

  • Nomura names Prabhat Awasthi as new India Head
    Global investment bank Nomura has appointed Prabhat Awasthi as its new India head. Awasthi, who is currently Head of Equities, India, will replace Vikas Sharma as the country head from April 1.
  • 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games
    Special Olympics Team India Competing against 2700 athletes from 107 countries won 37 gold, 10 silver and 26 bronze medals and secured 5th position in the overall medal tally.

  • Earth Hour observed across the World

  • India, Nepal renew petroleum supply agreement
    India and Nepal have signed an agreement to renew supply of petroleum to Nepal for a period of five years. Under it IOC will supply about 1.3 million tonnes of fuel annually to Nepal with a promise to double the volume by 2020.

  • Odisha adopt SHG based financial inclusion model

  • UN appoints David Beasley to head World Food Programme
    United Nations General Secretary Antonio Guterres has appointed David Beasley as head of the Rome-based World Food Programme (WFP). Beasley will replace Etharin Cousin, who has been the WFP executive director since 2012.
  • India becomes net exporter of power for the first time
    According to Central Electricity Authority (CEA), under Union Power Ministry, India for the first time has become a net exporter of electricity. India exported around 5,798 million units of electricity to Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar.
