  • Air Force to build new Aerospace Museum in Delhi
    The Indian Air Force is set to build new Aerospace Museum in New Delhi, focusing to showcase and to create awareness in general public about India’s rich Aerospace heritage.
  • BRICS meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction in Udaipur
    All the five BRICS countries are parties to the adoption of the Sendai Framework for DRR in March, 2015 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A number of SDGs have specific targets related to Disaster Risk Management (DRM).
  • India ranks 7th among the Wealthiest Nations in the World
    The W20: The 20 Wealthiest Countries in the World – report by Johannesburg-based The New World Wealth, India is ranked 7th among the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of private wealth. US ranks 1st and China – 2nd.
  • Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
    The Sports Ministry announced that Rio Olympics medalists shuttler P.V. Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi Malik will receive the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award along with gymnast Dipa Karmakar and shooter Jitu Rai on Sports Day.

    China’s unmanned submersible(underwater drones-vehicles which can operate underwater without a human) has dived to a depth of 10,767 metres at the world’s deepest ocean point.
  • Toxic gas leak at Bangladesh
    About 250 people, including children, have fallen sick and hundreds of residents have been evacuated from their homes after a toxic gas leak from a fertilizer unit in Bangladesh’s port city of Chittagong.

    Two Indian–American women – Astrophysicist Anjali Tripathi from California and physician Tina R Shah from Chicago have been selected for the prestigious White House Fellow programme.
  • New Kind of laser created from jellyfish proteins
    For the first time scientists have developed laser from fluorescent jellyfish proteins that were grown in bacteria. These lasers have the potential to be far more efficient and compact than conventional ones.
  • Guruvayur to be covered under the PRASAD scheme
    The famous Sreekrishna temple in Guruvayur has been included in the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spirituality Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme. Of the eight centres shortlisted by the scheme only Guruvayur figures from south India.

  • China launches high-resolution radar imaging satellite
    China launched a new synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging satellite called Gaofen-3 from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. This is the first Chinese satellite that will would ‘serve many different needs of many different users’.
  • World’s first leprosy vaccine developed in India
    G.P Talwar, the founder-director of National Institute of Immunology (NII), has developed a first-of-its-kind, exclusive and indigenous leprosy vaccine in India. It is the first vaccine for leprosy.
  • Gujarat to host 2016 kabaddi world cup
    The 2016 Kabaddi World Cup will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Gujarat will play host to 12 kabaddi teams. The Kabaddi World Cup matches will be held in Ahmedabad’s upcoming state-of-the-art stadium.
  • Usain Bolt wins 200m to complete hat-trick
    Bolt had earlier won the men’s 100m title to become the first athlete in the history of the Olympics to win the showpiece event three times in a row. This was also Bolt’s eighth consecutive gold medal at the Olympics.

  • Brand ambassador for Beti Bachao, Beti Padao campaign
    Wrestler Sakshi Malik was named as Haryana’s brand ambassador for Beti Bachao, Beti Padao (save daughter, educate daughter) campaign in Haryana. Freestyle wrestler Sakshi Malik (23) won India’s first medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic.
  • Maharashtra, Telangana ink pact for 3 irrigation projects
    Maharashtra and Telangana have signed agreement for three irrigation projects to be constructed on Godavari, Pranahita and Painganga rivers.
  • President N. Ramachandran was awarded with the Olympic Order
    Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President N. Ramachandran was awarded the Olympic Order for his outstanding services to the Olympic movement. The President of the IOC, Thomas Bach, formally presented the award to Ramachandran.
  • Telangana govt plans to add 17 districts
    The Telangana government released a draft notification outlining a plan to reorganise the state into 27 districts from an existing 10 for easier administration and proposes to add 15 new revenue divisions and 46 new mandals or taluks.
  • Goldilocks planet in Earth’s galactic backyard
    Named Proxima b, the planet is in a ‘temperate’ zone compatible with the presence of liquid water — a key ingredient for life. The findings, based on data collected over 16 years, were reported in the peer-reviewed journal Nature.
